Southern Utah
October 2021 • Bryce Canyon and Capitol Reef are about 60 miles apart (or 120 miles via scenic byway), and their appeal seems to depend on demographics: Youngsters and selfie hunters love Bryce because it’s fun and flashy and surreal, and older folks dig Capitol because it's not an IG magnet like Bryce. Conquering southern Utah in just a few days is a fool's errand, so now that I'm on a first-name basis with these two siblings, I’m keen to meet a few of their cousins: Grand Staircase-Escalante, Bears Ears, Natural Bridges, Goblin Valley.
