Russia
St. Petersburg • Golden Ring
Autumn 1996 • Because of a heavy work schedule, it was months before I ventured beyond Moscow. But when I finally broke free, the enjoyment of Russia increased exponentially. St. Petersburg was a revelation after the drab, monolithic hugeness of the capital. And the towns of the so-called Golden Ring, especially Suzdal, were ideal for wandering around in the fall. Arline said I'd been taking too many photos of buildings in Moscow, so I made a point of stalking and posing strangers whenever elsewhere.
