Baja Coast
March 2021 • Even during pandemic—or maybe because of it—the American expat scene along the Baja coast is hard to miss (I'm looking at you Loreto, Nopolo, Bahia de LA, San Felipe, Todos Santos). A couple of notable exceptions: Santa Rosalía has nothing for the angler or beachcomber besides historic French architecture and a unique vibe, and the basic tents and cabins in Laguna San Ignacio's eco-camps are a weird fit for any crowd that rolls around in plush acronyms of RV, SUV, and ATV. Besides these two unicorns, though, coastal Baja feels like a redundancy of MAGAish fishermen and bikers who punctuate every dim sentence with a loud, meaningless laugh. Qué lástima.
