Wadi Rum
March 2011 • Wadi Rum was the setting for "Lawrence of Arabia," and now it's a mecca for hikers, climbers, camel riders, and rock hounds. The Bedouin are in charge of tourism here, and we were fortunate to have Difalah and his 4-year-old son, Ahmed, as our guides. The landscapes were Martian and eerily quiet, and the desert spring weather was welcome relief from the snow and rain in Istanbul.
