February 2023 • Patagonia is a spin of the weather wheel, its atmosphere so dynamic the forecast changes by the hour. For high season you need to book accommodations far in advance and hope the conditions will be favorable when you finally get there. Somehow I chose the right eight boxes on the calendar and did four day-hikes that all had good weather. In fact the conditions along the Laguna de los Tres trail were miraculous: bright sky, high thin clouds, light breeze. Only a day before, thousands of hikers had to cope with harsh winds and light snow when they finally reached the bucket-list viewpoint after a merciless final kilometer up. Got lots of good pics, but the real payoff came from acquaintances along the trails. People bring their best stuff to this place.
